Kaneda explains that nothing has been resolved, and in her opinion, the war continues. She is amongst the list of war orphans who embarked on long journeys to seek justice and redress from the Japanese government. Through her efforts, she dug up government records documenting postwar interviews conducted and also conducted interviews herself.
She eventually collated the findings and published an acclaimed book about WWII orphans. It wasn’t any easier for the orphans who were left in China, even though most had been taken in by loving and caring families. They still had to face the effects of the firebombings down the line.
