Japan’s World War II Orphans Tell Their Inspiring Tales Of Resilience And Recovery
The Kindness Of Strangers
Xi Jingbo hailed from Japan and settled in northern China with his folks. However, he didn’t have any official records to prove that he was Japanese. Villagers would later tell him that he had been left behind after the 1945 surrender. He became part of the large number of displaced war orphans who Chinese families eventually adopted.
Now a retired maths teacher, Jingbo explained that he never faced any type of discrimination from his adoptive family. In turn, he took care of his adoptive folks as they aged, and sadly, he lost his last parent in 2009. He made it a habit to go on short annual trips to his birth country Japan.
