Grief is a common emotion to experience for foster parents after a child leaves their home, which is why many prefer not to take care of kids temporarily. However, John DeGarmo, in his essay on Youth Today, explained that heartbreak indeed should be felt.

He pointed out that feeling the pain only meant that the mom and/or dad have given their all to love the child unconditionally, even for just a period. Although DeGarmo didn’t dismiss feelings of sadness when the kid was taken away, he underlined the fulfillment that comes with supporting and embracing little ones.
