Harry Belafonte (Born In 1927)
Harry Belafonte is one of the most successful Jamaican-American pop stars ever and popularized the Trinbagonian Caribbean music style in the ’50s to an international audience. His debut album “Calypso” was the first million-selling LP by a single artist and he is known for songs like, “The Banana Boat Song,” “Jump in the Line” and “Jamaica Farewell.”
Belafonte also starred in some movies over the years including, “Carmen Jones,” “Island in the Sun” and “Beetlejuice.” In 2007, he retired from music and performing and is now enjoying the slow-paced life.
