Pope Francis has taken several steps during his time to cut down on costs and expenditures in a bid to reform the Vatican’s finances. He might have taken this a step too far when he accepted a 20-year-old vehicle to drive himself around St. Peter’s Square.
Given to him as a gift from Father Renzo Zocca, the Renault 4 was presented in support of Pope Francis’ efforts to build a church for the poor. The Renault previously used to belong to Father Renzo himself and has 190k miles on its odometer. The Pope recently called for governments of developed countries to develop a farsighted financial model to help alleviate poverty.
