Behind The Face Of An Angel: Audrey Hepburn’s Success & Secret Past

She Snagged Her First Starring Role From Elizabeth Taylor

The first time Audrey starred in a full movie was in the 1953 film Roman Holiday. The budding movie star surprised everyone when she bagged an Oscar, a Golden Globe, New York Film Critics Circle award, and a British Academy of Film and Television Arts award for the role.

Actress Elizabeth Taylor was the initial pick for this character, but after director William Wyler saw Audrey’s screen test, he knew that she was perfect for the Cinderella-like comedy. His instincts proved to be spot on when the film was a hit at the box office.
