Behind The Face Of An Angel: Audrey Hepburn’s Success & Secret Past
She Dreamed Of Becoming A Prima Ballerina
An ardent lover of classical ballet, Audrey began training to be a ballerina when she was five years old. At age 14, she secretly performed for audiences to raise money for the Dutch Resistance. The audiences never applauded for fear of getting caught by the Nazis.
Sadly, when Audrey sought to enroll in a prestigious ballet school after the war ended, she was considered too tall and frail for ballet despite having trained under prima ballerina Winja Marova. However, she did play a ballerina for her debut in the 1952 film The Secret People.
