Behind The Face Of An Angel: Audrey Hepburn’s Success & Secret Past

Her Father Was A Nazi Sympathizer, While She Helped WWII’s Dutch Resistance

Audrey’s parents, Joseph Hepburn-Ruston and his wife, Dutch baroness Ella Hepburn-Ruston, were members of the British Union of Fascists. Ella quickly had a change of heart when she witnessed the Nazi regime’s brutality and anti-Semitism, but Joseph supported Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich even further.

Despite her troubled upbringing, young Audrey dedicated herself to helping out the Dutch Resistance during the German occupation. She occasionally served as a courier, delivering messages and aid to resistance groups. This task was frequently given to children because the Nazis tended not to search them.
