Choose Your Religion

Icelanders are known for their open-mindedness when it comes to religion. While many believe in mythical creatures like fairies and elves, a significant portion of the population is still affiliated with the National Church, which is the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Iceland.

This Christian church is the officially recognized religion in the country. Interestingly, Iceland has been more accepting of new religious ideas compared to many other European nations since the late 19th century. The Icelandic constitution has enshrined the freedom of religion since 1874. The oldest church in the country is the 17th-century Grafarkirkja Church, as seen in the photo.
