The Netherlands’ military team is nothing to laugh at. They boast a formidable air force and an impressive navy. With numerous advanced ships and submarines, they’re a real threat on the high seas. Their army is no less powerful and has a history of success in multiple conflicts.

What’s more, they are the first European nation to establish a standing army, dating all the way back to 1629. Despite their reputation of strength and courage, they’ve managed to keep their unique sense of humor and “gezelligheid,” an informal term for cheerfulness and conviviality, alive and well within their ranks. It’s no wonder they’re a favorite among NATO forces.
